Anton’s Cleaners is looking for gently used or new prom dresses for its ninth annual Belle of the Ball program. The dresses are cleaned and displayed at a “boutique” at Simmons College, where high school girls who otherwise couldn’t afford to go to their proms are invited to select their favorites. Students are referred by guidance counselors, teachers, and social service agencies; more than 2,300 girls have been outfitted since Belle of the Ball began in 2005, according to a press release. “Belle of the Ball’s purpose is to make sure every girl who wants to attend her prom is able to obtain everything she needs, regardless of her ability to afford it,” the release said. Dresses can be donated through April 1 at any Anton’s Cleaners or Jordan’s Furniture stores.
